Yankuba Touray’s Ex-orderly Speaks on Koro Ceesay Death
Ensa Mendy disclosed that he suspected that Lt. Yankuba Touray participated in the murder of Ousman Koro Ceesay, the then Finance minister in the AFPRC government. Mr Ceesays remains were found in the outskirts of Jamburr village near Brikama in June 1995.
The witness made this revelation whilst testifying before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) chaired by Dr. Lamin J. Ceesay.
The witness told the Commission that he was still Lt. Yankuba Touray’s orderly after the 11th November, 1994 massacre, and indicated that after the then chairman of AFPRC, Yahya Jammeh, left for Ethiopia for the Africa Union Summit, he went to Yankuba Touray’s residence.
The witness disclosed that Yankuba Touray later called him to inform him and 5 others to go on patrol around the beachside to monitor a ship.
The witness explained that they left the house for the exercise but after sometime, and having had exhaustive patrols, he called Yankuba Touray to inform him that they didn’t see any ship and they wanted to go back home, but they were asked to remain there.
He further explained that they remained there until it was late and thereafter, Yankuba Touray called them to come, but upon their arrival, he went to the corridor where he observed that the condition of the house was different from the way it was when they left for the beach.
The witness stated that he also observed that when he found the green military fatigue, he had worn to the airport and noticed that it was wet and he saw two burnt marks on the said uniform.
He also stated that he became suspicious that something had happened in the house; when he got to the office he heard information that Ousman Koro Ceesay, the then minister of finance had died.
Ensa Mendy told the Commission that after the receipt of the information he suspected that Yankuba Touray participated in the murder of Ousman Koro Ceesay.
