LANDING BOJANG APPOINTED DEPUTY IGP.
Information reaching The Standard has confirmed that Landing Bojang, the operations commander of The Gambia Police, has been promoted to the rank Deputy Inspector General of Police.
Contacted for comment, police spokesman, Assistant Superintendent Lamin Njie, said he has heard of the news but that he’s yet to be officially informed. ASP Njie promises to officially confirm it as soon as possible, saying that the police will issue a public announcement once the reports are officially confirmed.
Until his recent appointment, Bojang was one of the Assistant Inspector Generals on the force. A former celebrated football player, Bojang was born in Brikama, the eldest son of Alhaji Bakary Dembo Santang Bojang, a popular former police commander who served as Director of Immigration, Commander of CID before being appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police following the police merger with the Gambia National Gendarmerie in the beginning of 1990. He later became headchief of Kombo Central District in April 1993.
Landing Bojang was not available for immediate comment on the report by the time we went to press last night.
