GAMBIA: AMADOU SAMBA OWES GAMBIANS US$900 MILLION

In August 21, 2017 we published this blog post.  We are republishing it here with the same questions we raised then, which we will pursue until answers are provided and justice is done on behalf of the Gambian people. The Gambian economy was destroyed and public resources wantonly squandered through illicit transfers using various means, including offshore accounts, by corrupt partners of the former regime.  The new political dispensation deserves better. —————————————————- The Panama Papers listed $ 900 million against the name of a company named AMASA Holding Ltd. owned by…

GAMBIA: OUR PRESIDENT AND OUR COUNTRY SHOULD STOP BEING IGNORANT!

Don’t Romanticize Ignorance: Written By Alagi Yorro Jallow “President George Weah went back to school. George Weah went back to books, George Weah went back to learning”. Alagi Yorro Jallow “Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is tragedy. Ignorance is devastation. Ignorance creates lack. Ignorance creates disease. Ignorance will shorten your life. Ignorance will empty your life and leave you with the husks, nothing to account for.” — Jim Rohn  My favorite author when discussing the hopelessness of the Gambia is the Ghanaian writer, Ayi Kwei Armah. He warns the black…

GAMBIA: GAMBIANS SHOULD NOT TOLERATE THOSE WHO TRY TO BRING WAR ON OUR COUNTRY!

On 26th December, 2016, we penned this editorial, appealing to the good senses of Gambians everywhere not to give cause for Jammeh to act foolishly.  Thankfully, we transitioned the  political impasse uneventfully, made possible, in part, by the presence of the ECOMIG forces to re-enforce the security cover provided by the Gambian military. The appeal made a year and a half ago, we believe, is very relevant today as we embark on a national debate about the future of the coalition government of President Adama Barrow – or what’s left…

Fatu Camara of the Fatu Network has said that The Gambia is on an autopilot—arguing that the country is sailing on an unknown destination. She told Freedom Radio Gambia that the country, under the leadership of President Adama Barrow, is virtually on a standstill, and even kids are aware of the country’s economic hardship. She recalled having a chat with her eleven-year-old son on the government’s plans to offer free Wi-Fi to Gambians. But according to Fatu, her son told her that the country, has more pressing developmental needs to…

Abu Hamad Ghazali was a Persian muslim thelogist who lived in 1058-1111 A.C. He was a deep thinker with an open mind and by his ability to combine philosophy and theology in a very approachable way he became very popular. Students and scientists followed his work with great interest and this lead to Ghazali’s position as a professor at the college of Nizamyya in Bagdad 1091. Ghazali’s popularity among the Europeans depended on his way of writing, that his theological argumentation was related to European theology of the time. The…

This followed, a recent Freedom Newspaper lead story exposing the impending announcement by the government. It is not clear what must have occasioned the government’s decision to differ the announcement on Obiang’s planned investments in the impoverished West African country. But sources said prior to the Freedom Newspaper story, plans were afoot to issue a press release to inform Gambians about…

THE BARROW LED ADMINISTRATION SHOULD DESIST FROM RELIGIOUS MATTERS

A President who is democratically elected to serve all Gambians shouldn’t use his good office and/or influence to promote any religion in the midst of others particularly in The Gambia – a community of different religious beliefs. The President should know that he is no more a private citizen, which is why he should be extra careful in handling religious matters. The building of the said 60 mosques he talked about during his meet-the-farmers tour and the donation of 11 million dalasis  to the Pilgrims in  Mecca  didn’t only indicate…
