Gambia: Government should investigate unsubstantiated allegations made by the former Executive Secretary of the Janneh commission, Mr. Alhagie Kurang.
I hope the Justice Minister will not only stop at sacking the Commission secretary but to investigate his allegations against lead council Bensouda.T his allegations has compromised the Commission before the eye of the international community and to discourage them to help us have Jammeh face justice. The allegations of Mr. Kurang shouldn’t be underrated because he was a key figure inthe commission however Mr.Kurang shouldnt have protested as there are better ways to solve the problems. Government should have work in consultation with the Parliamentary Account Committee,
The Various Security Apparatus, to do a proper Background Checks of each member of the Commission as the first step and later comes the vetting process of its nominated members before they were finally appointed.
My question is they are selling / auctioning the former President’s assets even before the conclusion of the Commission/Enquiries . So if for instance some of the things they are selling happen to be acquired by Jammeh legally. What will they do and where is the presumption of Innocent until proven Guilty by a Competent, Credible and independent Court of Law ? Interesting time ahead in our new Gambia.
