Yesterday (05th July 2018), Lamin Manneh confessed to police officers at the Brikama Police Station that he did kill his friend, the deceased Musa Colley. In his confession, Lamin said, “I did kill Musa to get money from him but I was under the influence of alcohol.” He made this confession after nearly a week of investigation by police investigation operatives. In fact, Lamin is the last person arrested by the police in connection to the death of Musa Colley. On Saturday (30th June 2018), he (Lamin) deceptively organized and led the mob to attack the Brikama Police Station, in demanding mob justice to be meted out on the young lady (Musa’s girlfriend) arrested by the people. That was his attempt to kill her because she could potentially reveal his connection to the killing of the deceased.
This is brief of what happened:
In the early hours of the morning on Saturday 30th June 2018, the deceased Musa Colley was going to accompany his girlfriend after a party, when they met the accused Lamin Manneh. He (Lamin) called him and asked him to see him privately but he declined this and continued walking with the young lady. Immediately after the meeting with Lamin,, Musa told her that “these boys are envious of me having money and each time I do, they try to get it from me.” Walking the distance, Musa banged a truck standing by the highway with his hand and nearly had a brawl with the apprentices and the driver to the truck. After a quarrel, the truck people said to him, “go and come back, we shall be waiting for your return.” On his return, the young lady (his girlfriend) followed him sneakily. She too knew about the money and wanted to get part or a whole of it from him. He had no further encounter with the truck people but Lamin Manneh was waiting for him. According to Manneh, both of them were drunken.
When Musa reached Lamin, an encounter ensued. It was Lamin forcefully trying to get the money from Musa and the resistance coming from the other side. He (Lamin) stoned Musa on the head and overpowered him. As he was on the struggling on the ground, he repeatedly hit on the head until he died. The young lady saw this from a distance but tried not to be seen by Lamin. Upon believing that the victim was dead, Lamin hid at a nearby compound and waited for the information to come out. When the body got discovered by passersby, police came to the incident and took the body for post-mortem and then started making arrests. Because she was seen with her that night, the first prime suspect became her, the girlfriend. She pointed to the truck driver and the apprentices as suspects and they too were arrested.
At home, Lamin was deceptively crying and asking “who killed my friend? who killed Musa?”. Then the information came to him that Musa’s girlfriend was arrested. He knew she was there when they first met that night and when he asked to have a private chat with Musa. The question “what can I do to not make this young lady reveal the truth against me??” supposedly came to his mind. He organized a mob and led it to the Brikama Police Station. The plan may not be known to all those in the mob but it was clear to Lamin – his was to kill the young lady and to cover-up. They attacked the Station and made damages thereto but an ECOMIG troop intervened to restore calm and orderliness. The troop dispersed the mob and Lamin took a taxi and left the scene. The mob attack on Brikama Police Station hit headlines and people were giving stories; some fabricated elaboration, many fake and few deductions of what really happened. Even the police couldn’t explain at that point what happened and how the deceased was killed.
Later, the young lady revealed that Lamin Manneh did the killing. He got arrested the following day (Sunday 1st July,2018) and searches were made at his residence, where the cloth he wore the on the night of the killing was found with blood stains. Police interrogation continued until yesterday when he confessed that he actually did the killing but under the influence of alcohol. He intention, according to him, was to get money from his deceased friend. Lamin is currently helping the police in their investigation.
