By: Yusupha Bojang,

The new managing director at the SSHFC is doing a great job in bringing realism in that self serving corporation but his salary and expenses are over the top.
The managing director at the SSHFC earns more than a million dalasis per annum in salary and expenses.
I suspect it’s the same kind of ridiculous salaries and expenses at the other corporations like Gamtel, Ports Authority, Civil Aviation and GIA.

The president and his cabinet ministers cost the poor Gambian taxpayers on average more than a million and half dalasis per annum each.

What kind of responsibility does the government and its parastatals have towards the national development and the wellbeing of Gambians?
I suppose none.

The Gambia Government and its parastatals are self-serving institutions who do not give a rats ass about the national economic development of The Gambia- the provision of public services and the economic well-being of the citizens.

What is the justification for the president and his cabinet ministers and the directors of public corporations to be paying themselves millions of public money per annum when an average Gambian worker is paid less than fifty thousand dalasis per annum?
There’s not a single proper working public services in The Gambia- no electricity and water supplies in the country and not even paracetamol in our hospitals.
Some ordinary Gambians go to bed hungry with their families including children.

What kind of a country do we live in?
What kind of a government presides over such a misuse of public money?

How about the president being paid not more than a million dalasis per annum and the cabinet ministers and the directors of public corporations not more than D750,000.00 per annum.
We have a country to build and a population that should benefit from their revenue and the taxes they pay in the provision of public services and an affordable cost of living standards in the country.

The Gambia needs a president who will stand up for the interest of the national economic development of the country and a better and a more fairer redistribution of public funds.
President Barrow certainly do not have any real agenda for the national economic development of The Gambia and the wellbeing of the ordinary Gambians.
Barrow is just presiding over the old rancid system where a few people called the government continues to live off the poor people of The Gambia.
Nothing has changed in the way public money is handled by the public officials for the economic development of the country and the welfare of the citizens.
It’s a milking cow system.

The Gambia Government and its parastatals are self-serving institutions and are milking the country for their personal benefits.
There’s no leadership in the country that is focused on the national economic development and the well-being of the citizens.
The Barrow government is a rat race government like its predecessors and the sooner ordinary Gambians get in a president who will put the economic development and the well-being of the citizens the priority of the government the best for The Gambia.

There’s no justification for the president and his cabinet ministers and the directors of public corporations to be paying themselves ridiculous salaries and expenses when the country cannot service its national debt, no public services in the country and most Gambians are struggling to put food on the table for their families.

If you cannot accept a pay offer of a million dalasis per annum for the president and D750,000.00 p/a for the ministers and the directors of public corporations, then we don’t have any job for you in The Gambia.

Let’s get Barrow out and seek a leader who knows what to do to make the Gambian economy work for every Gambian.

The wellbeing of the economy and the proper handling of public finances equals to national development and the wellbeing of the ordinary Gambians.
