There are chaos and deep-rooted problems in our political governance. It is time that the current administration under the leadership of HE President Adama Barrow draws the lines and reminds our appointed diplomats in foreign mission or services to understand the rules of diplomacy and focus more on their assigned responsibilities, instead of engaging in political clientelism, hence making serious, and unfounded allegations. A Diplomat as the name implies is a government’s representative. He or she must understand the protocols of political governance and the ethics of communication, hence avoiding at all cost the implications of making demeaning and disparaging statements that could cause unintended consequences, thereby affecting the reputation of the government.

Having said that the making of misleading statements that are politically motivated, as in the case of the recently leaked audios of Tuku Jallow on social media is very serious. Therefore, she (Tuku) alleging that HE Fatoumata Jallow Tambajang, former Vice President and Minister of Woman’s Affairs and Director General of the State Intelligence Agency (SIS), Mr. Ousman Sowe were planning to overthrow the government of The Gambia shouldn’t be left unattended.

The alleged statement is irresponsible and coming from diplomat brings more questions than answers in the way and manner our diplomats appointed. I suggest that she be recalled to Banjul and be interrogated on her statement, and if found untrue be reprimanded, and sacked from her current position. We need to start setting examples as it seems to be a practicing norm in our democracy by our public servants. Let us not be partisan in public service, as the essence of the role of civil servants is to serve and not take sides in the form of blind loyalty.

To conclude, this brings it into the context that we need to build institutions, ensure that we do not politize government employment, educate and raise the awareness of the citizenry, especially public servants to learn and understand that loyalty lies to the state and not on individuals.

Abdou Jallow This is what you get when you appoint uncouth loudmouths in our foreign missions whose only qualifications were borne out of their desperation to serve in order to escape the challenges and trappings of the West. This is a shame and the least Tuku should get in the face of this obnoxious lie is a severe reprimand.

Mambye Cham This is the result of having a minister of external affairs who fills our foreign service with his party surrogates. The previous ambassador representing us in Morocco did the unthinkable of biting off the finger of a another staff member. It is a total mess and we are becoming a laughing stock around the world. These emissaries should on the contrary be model citizens projecting a noble image of our country
