For 22yrs, The Political rivalry between Darboe and Halifa has been the get out jail card for Jammeh.
Halifa’s fantasy politics and Darboe’s incompetent leadership of the UDP condemned The Gambia to 22yrs of dictatorship under Jammeh.
That political rivalry between Halifa and Darboe was reignited again in the passing of the Appropriation Bill in the National Assembly.
Halifa and PDOIS decided to abstain in the vote thereby giving the government the majority needed to get the bill through the Assembly.
Is Halifa’s politics about countering Darboe or serving the national interest?
The same question could be asked of Darboe.
Darboe’s opposition to the coalition agreement is a direct opposition to Halifa’s long term idea of how the opposition parties should form a coalition against Jammeh.
Should Gambian politics be dogged by the political rivalry between two incompetent protagonists at the expense of national interest?
Halifa was wrong to put unreasonable conditions for going into a coalition against Jammeh.
And Darboe is wrong to oppose the coalition agreement because of Halifa’s selfish intransigent political position of putting in ridiculous demands before going into any coalition with Darboe against Jammeh.
None of Darboe and Halifa’s political gyrations serve the national interest of The Gambia.
If you want to support a political party that is led by a political fantasist, PDOIS is your ideal political party.
If you want to support a political leader who doesn’t understand politics and callously throws away his majority in the National Assembly, Darboe is your Mandela.
Halifa and Darboe are two bad influences in Gambian politics that risks perpetuating the rule of another imbecilic president our country.
The passing of the Appropriation Bill in the National Assembly is a another drawing of political battle lines between Darboe and Halifa against the national interest of The Gambia.
Darboe is not a competent politician.
The UDP has given Darboe all the political powers he needed in The Gambia by giving him the majority in the National Assembly.
And somehow, Darboe has squandered that majority of his in the National Assembly.
Darboe’s opposition to the coalition agreement is one the most damaging political decisions against the national interest of The Gambia and UDP.
And going by the results of the vote on Appropriation Bill, Halifa would rather abstain from voting than work with Darboe even that is what is in the national interest of The Gambia.
What does Halifa really want?
To be continually opposed to Darboe even if that means propping up a terrible government just to stick it to Darboe!!
But again how can one blame Halifa when Darboe cannot get beyond the childish personal politics between him and Halifa.
Darboe has failed to lead the UDP in the National Interest Of The Gambia and the UDP majority in the National Assembly has evaporated.
Halifa is prepared to prop up another stupid government in The Gambia just to stick it back to Darboe.
The UDP should be prepared for another long stint in opposition because Darboe has thrown away the majority that the party has given to him in the National Assembly.
Darboe on his own cannot win an out right majority against Barrow in an election.
That’s the confirmation of the passing of the Appropriation Bill in the National Assembly.
Ordinary Gambians especially MPs in the National Assembly should think about what is in the national interest of The Gambia and stop blindly following Darboe and Halifa.
But the biggest Loser is Darboe, the UDP and The Gambia.
Halifa can dabble in his fantasist politics all he wants but until he recognizes the fact that in a democracy, a smaller party is expected to join forces with the bigger party in the national interest to flush out a government that is serving the national interest, The Gambia democracy and economic development will remain perilous for a very long time.
