Dr. Baba Galleh Jallow, the executive secretary of Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) has charged that the national broadcaster GRTS should ensure that the proceedings of the TRRC have a nation-wide coverage.
Dr. Jallow made this declaration on Thursday during a presentation on the theme: ‘The Role of the Media in Transitional Justice’ in the four day training workshop for media professional organised by the Ministry of Justice in partnership with UNDP, the Gambia Press Union, United Nations Human Rights and the United Nations Peace-building Support Office (PBSO).
Dr. Jallow disclosed that he observed that people in Jarra Soma could not listen to Radio Gambia, not to mention people in Janjanbureh, Bansang and Basse in the Central and Upper River regions of the country.

The executive secretary charged that media must play its role as watch dogs, voice for the voiceless, remain independent and execute its work with the highest standards of professionalism by observing the principles of fair and balance reporting, truthfulness and adhering to the ethics of the profession.
Dr. Jallow remarked that if the TRRC proceeding is not heard across the country the people would not feel and consider themselves as part of the transitional justice process.
He pointed out that even though there are community radio stations, the coverage of Radio Gambia in the TRRC proceedings cannot be overemphasised.
He therefore charged that the government should make sure that Radio Gambia is heard in every nook and cranny in the country.
