While the leader of the United Democratic Party Ousainou Darboe has left the country ahead of the three years jotna Monday protest march, a close associate of President Adama Barrow, Alkali Conteh, has also left the frontiers of The Gambia, Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Mr. Conteh arrived at his Raleigh, North Carolina residence few days ago. He is currently in the Triangle.
The circumstances surrounding Alkali’s US trip is unclear. Conteh is an official of Gambia’s Public Service Commission (PSC). The PSC is the government regulatory body that look into the affairs of public servants in the country. It hires and fires government workers.
Conteh was a former member of the UDP political party; a strong supporter of the party’s leader Lawyer Ousainou Darboe. He is now widely despised by Darboe’s supporters.
Not long ago, the UDP Deputy Leader Aji Yam Secka claimed in an interview with the Paradise TV that it was Conteh, who was allegedly responsible for the strained relationship between Barrow and Ousainou Darboe. Conteh hasn’t yet publicly debunk Secka’s allegations against him.
Multiple sources have confirmed Alkali’s presence in Raleigh. He is on a visit here, sources intimated.
In another development, UDP sources said Mr. Darboe is expected to return to The Gambia on December 21st.
