AS BARROW CLOCKS THREE YEARS IN POWER; FIRE OUTBREAK DESTROYS FISHERIES MINISTRY!

Police in The Gambia are investigating a fire incident, which ravaged the country’s Ministry of Fisheries, Freedom Newspaper can report. The inferno had consumed virtually the entire building on Monday morning. Among the items destroyed by the fire include—official files, computers, and other valuables.

The circumstances surrounding the fire is unknown.  Personnel of the Fire and Ambulances were deployed to the scene of blaze. Efforts were made to put off the fire, but that never stopped the blaze from burning a greater chuck of the Fisheries Ministry.

The fire incident occurred on President Adama Barrow’s three years rule. Barrow came to power on December 2nd, 2016 after defeating Gambia’s exiled dictator Yahya Jammeh.

Fire incidents in public places and institutions are now becoming a common routine in present day Gambia. It was not long ago that a gas plant was set ablaze in Kanifing. The incident had led to the destruction of many cars parked at the plant.

It would be recalled that a public bus was also burnt in the same area.

In the meantime, the police and the fire service are working collaboratively to figure out what must have triggered the fire incident at the Fisheries Ministry. It is not clear if the incident was a sabotage or not.

Fisheries Minister James Gomez was contacted on his cellular phone, but he was unavailable for comment. His line was on voicemail when we contacted him.
