Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Premier League Champions Albert Commey has praised referee Bakary Papa Gassama for the fair handling of the game between his side and Fosa Juniors on Sunday.

The Gambian referee was the man in the middle as Aduana dispatched the Malagasy side 6-1 to take a giant step towards reaching the group stages of the competition.

Papa Gassama, who is Africa’s top referee awarded the home side three penalties, which were very fair and Albert Commey who was critical of the referee in their game against ES setif has only words of praises for the Gambian.

“The referee is a very good referee,” Commey said after the game. “He says a penalty and take it, he sees a foul and takes it so at half time we advised our boys that the way the referee is awarding penalties, it is the same way he can award it to Fosa Juniors so they have to be very careful.”

The Dormaa based side have always had problems with refereeing especially in their away trip to Algeria, where they were whitewashed by E.S setif.

However, referee Gassama who renowned as the best referee on the continent ensured there was no talking points about his performance.

“I tell you this is Africa’s number referee and we have seen referee with the difference. Yes, he did not come to help anybody he was very fair and so I’m happy we took our chances.”

Aduana Stars travel to Madagascar in a fornight time for the second leg of the game. An aggregate win will see the Ghanain Champion through to the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup.
